The CheeseMill

Good Morning. I finished my delivery routes early this morning since the city condemned two tenements yesterday. I had 20 less papers to deliver. I have a little extra time to introduce the story's characters to you.

To your right is the owner of the CheeseMill, the publisher of the newspaper. He is the only person in town lucky enough to own an automobile. This photograph is from a front page story and the only known instance when he allowed a photograph to be taken of his automobile.

On the left is the publisher's wife. She always wears hats and no less than four strands of pearls or beads.
On the right is the publisher's fashion model lover. He probably would have married the model, but his wife inherited the CheeseMill and a large fortune from her father, as well, unfortunately, as his nose.

To the right is the paper's day editor who is the publisher's wife's long-time lover. He's a daring young man in more ways than one. To the right of the aviator editor is their love child. Shhhh! That's a secret that only the publisher, his wife, the day editor, the baby's first nanny and I know.

The society editor above is quite the tennis player. She shocked the town by showing her bare legs in a short skirt at a match and seems to have started a trend. The only woman in town to have known more men in the biblical sense than the society editor has is the seductress seen below. The seductress greets guests at the speakeasy and runs a booming little business in back that we'll talk more about later. The seductress sometimes specializes in specific special needs. Below the seductress, you see the paper's sports editor who pays handsomely to box with her.

The streets around the CheeseMill on the left are just as much a character in my story as the people whose mugs you see before you. Except for these wee hours when I am out, the streets are alive with people.

Above are 8 of the 10 CheeseMill newsroom reporters, hot on the trail of staking out a corrupt mayor's speakeasy to expose who the liquor supplier is. The 9th reporter, seen on the left, knows who the supplier is. For obvious reasons, he protects that secret with his life.

The publisher's private secretary, seen below in the middle with her church choir, is a likeable, shy young lady who fell hopelessly in unrequited love with the 10th reporter. She was embarrassed and left town for a few months after the glamour photo that she took for him last Valentine's Day somehow got published in the paper by mistake.

Next time, I'll tell you a little about the 10th reporter and the mystery lady I always see walking away from the Cheesemill at 5 o'clock in the morning, the pressmen, the ladies in the typesetting department who dress as cowboys for fun, and maybe a couple other behind the scenes characters. That will put some faces to the names for you, and then the story will begin.
