What follows are: the letter sent to the radio station and the actual flyer that was placed in bars in Fayette, Westmoreland, Washington and Allegheny Counties the weekend before the tribute aired.

Jimmy King and all his friends made some good music that you can request to hear on WYEP on Saturday nights. He was a great friend in the sense that we could talk, argue, debate, laugh, cry, get pissed off and still be friends.

Had someone called me and said Jimmy King died of a heart attack in the company of one or two redheads, I would’ve cried and mourned my friend dearly, but would not have had this additional sadness linger because he suffered so much for so long. The only consolation in knowing that his 25 year old son Chris took his own life months later --because he foolishly thought he had no family or friends-- is that the two of them are hanging out together now and know that we think about and miss them.

To listen to some of his music, go to
soundclick.com and type in James King and The Usual Suspects.

God has a sense of humor to have seen to it that Jimmy was buried among 5 women. If you want directions to his grave, send me an email at julie@julietoye.com... and if there’s an Otis Redding tape there, please leave it.

Once again, I thank everyone who was part of this radio tribute to Jimmy.
